Coffee and conversation make for an easy way to get to know someone new, catch up with an old friend, or just unwind for an hour or two.

For veterans and service members from Nelnet, ALLO, and Speedway Motors, the morning after Veterans Day included an opportunity to accomplish all of the above.

On Monday, Nov. 12, Nelnet teamed up with ALLO and Speedway Motors to offer an honorary breakfast to associates who have served or continue to serve in the armed services.

The event featured all of the expressions of patriotism found at most Veterans Day ceremonies — the singing of the National Anthem, a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, the playing of Taps — but what set this gathering apart was the simplicity of a meal shared between brothers and sisters in arms.

Veterans Day serves as a reminder to thank veterans for their service, but it’s important to consider that the gratefulness shouldn’t stop after Nov. 11. Throughout the year, Nelnet wants to give veterans careers that they can be proud of when they’re back home.

From the bottom of our hearts, we offer our sincerest thanks to all veterans and active service members for their bravery and sacrifice.
