On May 2, 2017, the fifth annual Silicon Prairie Awards were held in Omaha. The event recognizes companies and individuals in the Midwest for their outstanding products or services, strong leadership, and notable contributions to the community. Winners from nine categories were chosen based on public votes.
We are pleased to announce that Nelnet was named Corporate Innovator of the Year, based on the work of our Innovation Hub. Nelnet’s Innovation Hub develops and launches new products and services into new or existing markets. The team evaluates ideas submitted by associates based on their desirability, feasibility, viability, and the problems they are intended to solve.
In 2016, the Innovation Hub celebrated the launch of two new businesses: BenefitEd, an employer-funded student loan repayment program, and RemindCare, a pastoral care app. The Hub also continued to accelerate the growth of ClassBundl, an e-commerce bundled school supplies and apparel provider, and Propelr, a community philanthropic rewards program.
“We are honored to be included among the great teams recognized at this year’s awards,” said Scott Gubbels, executive director of corporate tax and the Innovation Hub. “To be recognized as best in class by our peers, for the second year in a row, validates Nelnet’s commitment to innovation. We’ve got a great team of passionate individuals working very hard to bring new value to our organization. Thanks to others within Nelnet for your continued support. We have strong momentum and are poised for growth in our future.”
