On Wednesday, November 22, a team of approximately 13 Nelnet associates volunteered to help the People’s City Mission set up the Starry Nights Festival, their largest annual fundraising event, at the Pinnacle Bank Arena.  Lincoln’s Charitable Contributions Committee also sponsored the Ornament Creation Station.

This marks Nelnet’s fourth year of sponsoring and/or volunteering to assist the Mission, Lincoln’s primary homeless shelter, with the event.

Pastor Tom Barber, CEO of the People’s City Mission, sent the following email describing this year’s event as record-breaking:

“Thanks so much for the congratulations and, more importantly, for helping sponsor Starry Nights again this year. Your partnership and friendship mean a lot to us!

I wanted to wait in responding until we had some hard data on the results. It looks like 2017 was the best attended and had most money raised ever. The total revenue generated was a little over $114,000, compared to about $100,000 in 2016.

I think Starry Nights is finally becoming a Lincoln tradition and hopefully will continue to grow in the coming years. So glad Nelnet can be part of it!”
